in yesterday's big rig crash and the north bay was a longtime teacher. the cardinal newman high school santa rosa, a former principal at cardinal newman confirmed with kron 4. the person killed was pat la fortuna. the la fortuna taught at cardinal newman from 73 to 2019. he also serve as a coach from various sports. putin track field, cross country, baseball or football. the school's track is named in honor of an and former colleague says he's shocked and saddened here. the last of his friend, yesterday's deadly crash happened around noon on westbound highway 12 santa rosa. police say the big rig did not stop as it was approaching the intersection of fulton road created a chain reaction. chp says 11 cars were involved. one of them a pickup truck catching fire. 9 other people had to be taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. the cause is still under investigation. >> to the east bay now where berkley police are invest-gating a hate crime after a family-run coffee shop was vandalized 4 times now in

once connected to neighborhoods at cary drive and haas avenue. took a long time. we were really getting anxious about this since march of last year when at least one large eucalyptus tree landed on the nearly 60 year-old structure, the project to replace the bridge languished in permit purgatory. >> mayor juan gonzalez says the city and other entities that own land on and around the area of the collapse had to manage through environmental regulations before moving forward. and then by the time that we received our permits. >> guess what? it was wild fish run season and the rains started. so then we had to postpone through the rain season the creek bed has since dried up and construction crews have built temporary dams to allow work to be done along the waterway. the city of san leandro has been circulating a request for proposals on this project. >> since late july will go through a process of involving the community around the design process. once we have a
