    • The Pro Tools DAW – A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that included a computer monitor and Mackie HUI control interface. This system was cutting edge in its day, allowing for recording of up to 24 live sources in real time, and playback of more than 100 recorded audio tracks, as well as MIDI based instruments, samples and loops.

Image 101 - A&S Cafeteria

Solved Mysteries of the LCC Archives (157)

Date: ca. 1980s

Location: Arts & Sciences Building – Cafeteria – Second Floor.

Description: Students eat and study in the cafeteria that was on the second floor of the Arts & Sciences Building.

Other Information:

  • The cafeteria in A&S was the Kennedy Cafeteria, named in honor of the fallen president, and was located on the south end of the second floor.
  • This image shows the east side of the cafeteria which was known as the "light side" or "loud side." The radio station played on this side and all the overhead lights were on.
  • The west side of the cafeteria (not pictured) was the "dark side" or "quiet side" where less of the overhead lights were turned on. The "dark side" was in the southwest corner of the building and was smaller than the "light side" because there was a conference room adjacent to it.
  • The "light side" of the cafeteria was non-smoking, while the "dark side" allowed smoking until smoking was eliminated from all LCC buildings.
  • The A&S Cafeteria doubled as an event space (banquets, dances, Silver Bells, etc). The tables and chairs were moved to make space for the dance area.
  • The cafeteria was also where students lined up for graduation. They would leave the cafeteria, go down the stairs and outside to the Mall, then walk over to Gannon and through the building to the gym (see image in the May 2021 group on theLCC Archives Gallerywebsite).
  • The cafeteria was open all the time, so students and employees would often use it as a place to meet, study or read. It was often quite busy, so this image might have been taken in the early morning.
  • The furniture in the image was the original furniture from when construction of A&S was completed in 1968. The table tops were white, and the chairs were woodgrain, stackable, easy to clean, easy to move and practically indestructible.
  • Because the Old Central Building was renovated at about the same time that A&S was built, the chairs pictured were in many of the classrooms in both buildings at that time.
  • In the 1990s the tables and chairs were replaced and the chairs were reused in the Women's Resource Center, now the Adult Resource Center (ARC).
  • The space is now filled with cubicles for the Social Science and Humanities (SSH) department faculty and staff and the SSH office.
